March 19-21, 2026

MISANU will host the meetings of the European Mathematical Society (EMS) Executive Council and the European Research Centres in Mathematics (ERCOM) from March 19 to 21, 2026.
These events will bring together the EMS leadership, representatives of ERCOM institutes, and distinguished guests for consultations, the exchange of best practices, and discussions on shared challenges and opportunities for collaboration across Europe.
International cooperation is a cornerstone of MISANU’s mission, and we are honored to welcome these prestigious meetings to our region for the first time, coinciding with the celebration of our 80th anniversary.

March 20, 2026

Prof. Alessio Figalli, Fields Medal Prize Winner 2018 and the director of the “FIM-Institute for Mathematical Research” at ETH Zürich will deliver a lecture `Exploring Stability in Geometric and Functional Inequalities’ on March 20th, 2026 at 10:30 in the conference venue of the Palace of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

May 15, 2026

The first meeting of the Institute's Committee took place on May 15, 1946, marking the beginning of the Institute’s work as an official unit of the Serbian Academy of Sciences. In recognition of this milestone, our Board later proclaimed May 15 as Mathematical Institute Day. To celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Institute, the Scientific Committee will hold a ceremonial session on May 15, 2026.

The Mathematical institute of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts is seeking nominations for the PhD, M.Sc., and student Annual awards for mathematics/mechanics and for computer science.

February, 2026

The Sacks Prize is awarded annually by the Association of Symbolic Logic for the most outstanding doctoral dissertation in mathematical logic.
This year’s recipient is Obrad Kasum, recognized for his thesis “Investigation into Phenomena Surrounding Universally Baire Sets”. He received his Ph.D. in 2025 at Université Paris Cité, under the joint supervision of Boban Veličković of that university and Grigor Sargsyan at IMPAN in Poland.
